In 1969, Françoise Hardy released En Anglais, already released in 1968 for the English market as The Second English Album (since she had already recorded Françoise Hardy In English, her first English album, in 1966). Unlike Françoise Hardy In English, which was a collection of covers of original English songs and of English adaptations of her songs, En Anglais is only made of covers of English songs.
En 1969, Françoise Hardy sort En Anglais, déjà sorti en 1968 pour le marché anglophone sous le titre de The Second British Album (elle avait déjà sorti un premier album anglais en 1966 : Françoise Hardy In English). Contrairement à Françoise Hardy In English, qui était une collection d'adaptations de chansons françaises en anglais et de reprises de chansons anglaises, En Anglais est uniquement composé de reprises anglaises.

Some of these covers are very beautiful. It's the case of her version of a famous song by Nirvana (the 1960's Brit prog-rock band, nothing to do with Kurt Cobain) : Tiny Goddess. No words to describe it. Just listen.

The original version is very beautiful too, even if, for me, it lacks the very peculiar kind of dreamy melancholy that Françoise Hardy's thin and soft voice gives to all the songs she sings.

Young Françoise Hardy sings in German

In 1965, Françoise Hardy released Françoise In Germany, an album that had been exclusively conceived for the German audience and was never to be released in France. Some of the songs were adaptation of French songs, like Peter Und Lou, which was the German version of Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles, but there were five songs that were directly written in German. Among them was the extremely cute Dann Bist Du Verliebt.
En 1965, Françoise Hardy sort Françoise In Germany, un album conçu tout spécialement pour le public allemand et qui ne sortira jamais en France. Certaines des chansons figurant sur cet album étaient des adaptations de chansons françaises, comme Peter Und Lou, version allemande du très célèbre Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles, mais on trouvait aussi sur ce disque cinq titres directement écrits en allemand, comme le très charmant Dann Bist Du Verliebt.

Someone on Youtube had the excellent idea to upload an extract from a 1960's German show where you can see a very young and very pretty Françoise, wearing a "schwarze smoking" by Saint Laurent, chat with a nice German presenter, then sing Dann Bist Du Verliebt.

Cinq ans plus tard, en 1970, Françoise Hardy sort un autre disque exclusivement destiné au public germanophone : Träume. On trouve sur ce disque une chanson éponyme, sans doute l'une des plus belles jamais interprétées par Françoise Hardy. J'avais découvert cette chanson il y a dix ans, lorsque j'étais allée voir au cinéma Gouttes D'Eau Sur Pierres Brûlantes, une adaptation par François Ozon d'une pièce de Fassbinder (c'est d'ailleurs l'un des rares flms d'Ozon que j'apprécie). Je n'avais pas reconnu la voix et j'avais raté la mention de la chanson pendant le générique de fin. J'ai mis des années à savoir qui chantait cette chanson. Quand j'ai finalement trouvé, j'en suis restée bouche bée. Je pensais que l'interprète était allemande (je ne suis pas germaniste et je ne me rendais pas compte que tout cela était chanté avec un assez fort accent français, tout de même) et, surtout, peu connue ...
Five years later, in 1970, Françoise Hardy released a second album for the German market : Träume. On the record is an eponymous song which is probably one of the most beautiful songs ever sung by Françoise Hardy. I first heard it ten years ago, when I went to the cinema to see Water Drops On Burning Rocks, an adaptation by François Ozon of a Fassbinder play (it's also one of the few films by Ozon that I like). I didn't recognize the voice and I didn't manage to read the name of the singer while the credits were rolling. It took me years to discover who the singer was, and when I learnt it was Françoise Hardy, I was flabbergasted. I thought the singer was German (I don't speak German and I hadn't noticed the strong French accent) and, mostly, little known ...

Two versions of the same song, both by French singer-songwriter Françoise Hardy : Je Ne Suis Là Pour Personne ("I'm Here For No One"), written by Hardy and J.-P. Castelein. First, the original 1968 acoustic version, then the 1989 electric remake with a very classy Françoise Hardy sporting a black suit and a white shirt.

Premiere Rencontre - Kim Wilde

Kim Wilde singing live and in French : Première Rencontre, a song written in 1973 by Michel Berger for Françoise Hardy. It's not always in tune and kim is not too sure about the lyrics , but it's quite cute.
Encore une vidéo pour Fafa : Kim chantant Première Rencontre de Michel Berger. L'image n'est pas bonne, Kim chante un peu faux et n'est pas très sûre de son texte, mais c'est plutôt mimi.
