Dusty Springfield & The Pet Shop Boys

Everyone who knows a little bit about Dusty Springfield's career knows that she didn't enjoy much success (that's to say the least) during the 70's. It would have probably been the same during the 80's if , in 1986, two very talented pop stars, who also happened to be huge fans of her work, hadn't contacted her to sing one of their singles. The two pop stars were The Pet Shop Boys and the single was What Have I Done To Deserve This ? It was a huge hit and it totally revived Dusty's career.

Obviously, it's a fake live, but I chose it over the official video because it seems to be the only time Neil and Dusty performed it together on stage.

After that single, The Pet Shop Boys wrote another song for Dusty : Nothing Has Been Proved, which was especially composed for Scandal's OST (Scandal is a 1989 movie about the Profumo Affair). It was another hit for Dusty.

Still in 1989, the Boys wrote a last song for Dusty : In Private. Again, a hit.

I really like that clip. Probably because of the dead-poodle-on-top-of-your-head quality of Dusty's perm and because of her wonderfully extreme panda eyes make-up.

Nothing Has Been Proved et In Private sont sur l'album Reputation.

Unknown a dit…

When Dusty sang "What Have I Done To Deserve This?" do you think she was talking to her hairdresser? *g*

Rôôôô ! Is it a Brit pixie I'm seeing ? *g*

Regarding Dusty, yes, the hair is pretty terrible, but! But, but ... it's even worse in the official video, in which it's got that kind of butch Rod Stewart touch, which is rather funny when you know that she had spent most off her life trying to over-feminise herself for the reason we know (that is, *ahem*, "unstraightness").

But nothing would prevent me from loving her, not even a good old Rod Stewart mullet. That's how strong my love is, yes. *g*
