My Love Is Your Love - Whitney Houston

J'ai posté des vidéos des deux soeurs, Dionne et Dee Dee Warwick. C'est au tour de leur cousine, maintenant : Whitney Houston. Si l'on m'avait dit, quand j'ai commencé ce blog, que je posterais un jour du Whitney Houston, j'aurais été incrédule et j'aurais rigolé. La soul que j'aime, elle meurt à la fin des années 60. Le style R'n'B popularisé par quelqu'un comme Whitney Houston (dont on ne niera certainement pas les grandes qualités vocales et d'interprétation), même s'il a produit des chefs-d'œuvre dans leur genre, n'est pas vraiment ma cup of tea. Mais voilà : en 1998, Whitney Houston sort un album, My Love Is Your Love, sur lequel figure une chanson éponyme, chanson qui sortira en 1999 et qui deviendra un gros tube. Cette chanson, sorte de reggae lent avec soupçons de rap et de dance, c'est Wyclef Jean, le leader des Fugees, qui l'a écrite et produite. Et c'est un petit bijou. Vérifiez vous-mêmes.
I've posted videos of both sisters Dionne and Dee Dee Warwick. Now it's their cousin's turn. If someone had told me, when I began this blog, that someday I would post a Whitney Houston video, I wouldn't have believed it and I would have laughed, probably. The kind of soul that I love died at the end of the 60's. The R'n'B style that Whitney Houston (whose vocal qualities are obvious) served so well isn't really my cup of tea, even if it produced masterpieces. But, but ... In 1998, Whitney Houston released an album, My Love Is Your Love. On that album, there's an eponymous song which was itself released in 1999 and became a huge international hit. That song, which is some kind of slow reggae with light rap and dance influences, was penned and produced by Wyclef Jean, the leader of The Fugees, and it's a small jewel. Check yourself.

Let It Be - Brandi Carlile

Even if I'm not a big fan of The Beatles, there are some of their songs that I really love. Not many, but some. Let It Be is one of them. Brandi Carlile seems to cover it very often. Here is a good live version of it.

Give Up The Ghost - Brandi Carlile

Here are a few live versions of some of the songs of Brandi Carlile's last album, Give Up The Ghost, which was released last year. As always with Carlile, my feelings are mixed. I really like some things and I'm not too sure about others. Some songs remind me a lot of Joseph Arthur's style (which is rather a good thing), others are clearly influenced by The Beatles (and me and The Beatles, well... I'm not a very big fan of them). One sure thing though : her voice is amazing. I selected the songs I liked the most. You judge.
Voici quelques versions live de certaines des chansons figurant sur le dernier album de l'Américaine Brandi Carlile, Give Up The Ghost, sorti l'année dernière. Comme toujours, avec Carlile, je suis mitigée. J'aime beaucoup certaines choses, et d'autres, nettement moins. Certaines chansons rappellent beaucoup Joseph Arthur (ce qui est plutôt bon me concernant), d'autres sont clairement sous influence Beatles (et bon, moi et les Beatles ... Je n'ai jamais été très fana de ce groupe). Une certitude, en tout cas : la voix de Carlile est exceptionnelle. J'ai sélectionné les chansons que je préférais. A vous de juger.

Flight Attendant - Josh Rouse

Josh Rouse (who looks a bit like Edward Norton and Peter Facinelli) is a very good American singer-songwriter who was born in Nebraska. His music is a mix of country, folk, blues, pop and jazz. One song will remind you of The Beach Boys and another one of Sam Cooke. I absolutely love what he does. It's too bad that he's not more famous. Josh is now living in Spain (in Barcelona I think, but I'm not totally sure) with his Spanish fiancée, Paz Suay (she's the pretty dark-haired woman in my video), with whom he recorded an EP : She's Spanish, I'm American. One of my favourite Josh Rouse albums is 1972 (his year of birth), and on this album, there is a song that I absolutely adore : Flight Attendant. You love latin jazz ? You love soul ? You'll probably enjoy that song. And pay attention to the lyrics, they're wonderful.
Josh Rouse (qui ressemble un peu à Edward Norton et Peter Facinelli) est un excellent musicien américain, né dans le Nebraska. Sa musique mélange les genres : country, jazz, folk, pop, blues ... J'adore ce qu'il fait et je trouve qu'il est vraiment dommage qu'il ne soit pas plus connu. Il vit actuellement en Espagne (à Barcelone, je crois, mais je n'en suis pas complètement sûre) avec sa fiancée espagnole, Paz Suay (la jolie jeune femme aux cheveux noirs, sur ma vidéo), avec qui il a enregistré un EP : She's Spanish, I'm American. L'un de mes albums préférés, parmi ceux qu'il a composés, est 1972 (son année de naissance), et sur cet album, il y a une chanson que j'adore : Flight Attendant. Vous aimez le jazz latino ? Vous aimez la soul ? Vous apprécierez probablement cette chanson. Les paroles sont très belles.

Linger, Let Me Linger - The Handsome Family

Since I couldn't find the song on youtube, I decided to make the video myself. I really love that song which is country and doo-wop at the same time. I love the atmosphere it creates, which reminds me of classics like My Prayer or Twilight Time. Brett and Rennie Sparks recorded the song for their Honey Moon album (released in 2009), an album of love songs they had composed to celebrate their 20th year of marriage.
Étant donné que je ne réussissais pas à trouver cette chanson sur youtube, j'ai pris un dizaine de minutes pour faire une vidéo moi-même et la mettre en ligne. J'aime énormément ce mélange de country et de doo-wop. J'adore l'atmosphère qui s'en dégage. Cette musique me rappelle des classiques comme My Prayer ou Twilight Time. I love that song. It was released in 1981 but it's got that typically 60's sound that I'm so fond of. The guitar solo is magic.

J'adore cette chanson. Elle date de 1981, mais elle a ce son que j'aime tant, si typique des années 60. Le solo de guitare est magique.
